The information you need is stored in different formats, in different
types of databases and in different locations. You want to search both
internal and external (Web) sources. And you need quick and efficient
access to the most relevant data. With Extended Search, you can search
these varied repositories from a single interface.
Lotus Extended Search provides parallel, distributed, heterogeneous
searching capability. From a single point of access -- a Web browser or
Notes client -- seamlessly search Notes databases, ODBC/RDBMS data stores
, Web search sites, Microsoft Index Server, Site Server and Exchange 2000
, as well as multiple Notes domains and Verity Index server via third
party search Link. You can gradually add existing and new data sources --
while avoiding the cost of re-indexing and additional storage. The unique
architecture of Extended Search is highly scaleable and can support
complex configurations.
A Java-based administrative interface allows you to easily add support
for new servers and new types of data sources. Configuration data is
stored by IBM's award-winning DB2 Universal Database, providing improved
capacity, performance, and data management.
With Extended Search, enterprises can streamline access to internal and
external information, improve company and partner communications, and
increase the effectiveness and scope of reference of existing knowledge
workers.
Whether you're using out-of-box search templates for Notes or Web browsers
, or integrating search capability into an existing application, Extended
Search is extremely flexible and can be customized to fit your individual
needs. Extended Search provides a Link Toolkit that allows development
and connectivity to additional legacy or proprietary data sources. Pre-
configured portlets for Lotus K-station are available, allowing you to
easily integrate enterprise-wise search capabilities into your customized
portal.
Release 3.7 can work with a variety of Web servers, including Lotus
Domino, IBM Websphere Application Server and HTTP Server, and Microsoft
IIS Server, and operates on Windows NT, 2000, IBM AIX and Sun Solaris
operating systems. Your intranet becomes the nexus for information
gathering -- increasing productivity, while making more data available
than ever before.
